Fishing my PopperStreamers. As can be seen the next page, I use balsawood to make the heads of my streamers. This kind of wood floats extremely well. All streamers which you see on this page can be fished in many different ways. On the surface. Place the streamer where you want it to land and use a 'jerky' retrieve. Vary your speed. As a result of the shape of the head the streamer will make a diving motion. This can work quite well, as the 'noise' will attract pike. The ditches and small canals we fish are often covered with weeds of all kinds, but it is still possible to fish my streamers successfully. It will often happen that when striking the fish will jump through the watersurface when grabbing the streamerfly. Under the surface. In deeper water my creations can be fished under the water surface, like when fishing a Dahlberg diver. In order to achieve that the leader needs to be 'leaded' sothat the streamer will sink slowly. When fishing the fly wants to float slowly back to the surface, but will remain under the surface when properly retrieved. This seems to be very attractive for the lurking pike. By adding more lead about 10 inches from the streamer the lead will sink, but the streamer will float some 5 to 10 inches above the bottom. This way the area just above the bottom can be fished very effectively. |
