I'm very pleased to introduce you to another one of my colleagues and friends in flyfishing. Meet Jos Vanrunxt ... one of the most adventurous flyfishers I ever met. We go back a few decades and it's always big fun to hang out with him. He recently told me about another one of his unique fishing trips, and we would like to share the story with you. Go ahead, Jos ... we are all ears !

  THE WHITE MARLINS OF MOROCCO.

My idea to travel to North Africa to flyfish for white marlin initially came up
when I purchased and rigged a boat. I bought an old Boston Whaler from the
Dutch police. All it had was a 150 hp motor, and that was it.
I worked on it for a whole fishingseason putting in all the equipment and
electronics myself. A depthmeter, an electronic compass, a radar transponder,
a seaworthy electric motor, a 10 hp auxiliary motor, and ... and ... and.
When my job was finished my wallet was a Mercedes lighter. Bought myself a
boat and worked my tail off for a whole year. It was worth it !!
And now, a year later, there are memories of lots of seabass that took my flies,
big walleye I nailed when fishing the Haringvliet. There was my trip to Russia
in June '06, some 1.900 miles north of here, cruising the coast of the White Sea
together with three buddies, heading for some pristine salmon rivers.
Morocco was next on my fishing agenda. September would be the right time to
go. Together with one of my flyfishing colleagues I headed down south
travelling via Paris, Bordeaux, Biarritz, Madrid, Granada, to end up in Algeciras
where we took the ferry to Tangiers. We took the road along the Moroccan coast
and ended up in a fishing village not far from Mohammedia, where all the facilities
to launch my boat were available. September 8 ... heading out into the Atlantic.
What will the ocean have in store for us ... ?
