My Dutch colleague Leon Links, fellow member of
the Netherlands Flyfishers Guild, and author of
"Tying Flies with CDC", and I share the love for the
unique plumage commonly known under the names
'Cul de Canard or 'Croupion de Canard", and also
referred to as 'Duck's Arse' in our country.
Apart from step-by-step instructions of one of Leon's
new and eminently fishable patterns, these pages will
also deal with the latest innovation in flytying, our
mutual friend Marc Petitjean's Magic tool.
 Innovation at its best.
This tool consists of two different-sized Perspex
bulldog-style clips, and three differently sized
springloaded snaps, plus three diameters of
grooved dowel. These springloaded snaps allow
dubbing material, CDC, hackles, soft hackles and
almost anything else to be combined as a dubbing
material before it is picked up in the bulldog clips
and inserted into a dubbing loop.
CDC plumage has been on the scene for a few
decades now. Exciting new techniques are releasing
the potential of this very versatile material.
