POLDERS ... the term used to describe any piece of land reclaimed from water.
And since we have been creating new land, whole provinces even, from what
had been sea and water for many centuries, we say
"God may have created the earth, but ........ The Dutch created Holland !
Today, approximately 27 percent of our country, officially referred
to as The Netherlands, is actually below sea level. This area is home
to over 60% of the country's population of 15.8 million people.
Polders ... the marriage of heaven, water, earth and FISH as the
images on this page will show. I have started out with 8 beautiful
pictures by courtesy of my son Marco.
More images of fishing The Lowlands by the Sea will be put on later, so ....

In the past, as I mentioned before, a quarter of the Dutch territory was
won from the water and subsequently provided with strong dikes.
Many polders also belong to that 'new territory', which are criss-crossed
by waterways and ditches with the pollard willow as the favourite tree.
The flat polderland exudes a distinct atmosphere. Waters teeming with
all kinds of fish and ... windmills comin' out of our ears ... *g*

Fellow clubmember Bert de Boer was kind enough to let me have the above 9 pictures for publication on my website. The thumbnails hereunder will lead you to five images of streamer flies which are particularly suitable for fishing for Northern pike also known as Esox Lucius. They were tied recently by my friend and fellow clubmember Bert Scheers. To see more of his tying skills check : http://www.bas4sure.com/bert_scheers/bert_scheers.html
